The InkFest program includes a number of inter-related printmaking activities for artists of all cultural backgrounds, including indigenous, emerging and experienced professional artists, and a large community engagement activiity, the BIG PRINT. The principal event is the juried InkMasters Print Exhibition, a tour de force of works of print media artists from the region who show alongside national and international printmakers. Also shown inTank 4 is the exhibition Prints from the InkFest Workshops, and a display by the Artists in Residence who also delivere a workshop and give an artist's talk. Prominent inkMaster printers also deliver workshops in a range of techniques .During her residency in 2016, Roz Kean a member of Sydney Printmakers, proposed a joint exhibition with the Sydney group and thus the final InkFest event was Partners in Print - 50 artists, 25 each from InkMasters and Sydney Printmakers - held at KickArts and Spot81 at Janet Clayton Gallery, Sydney.
The outstanding community event of InkFest is the BIG PRINT. In the weeks leading up to printing day InkMaster printmakers conduct print workshops in Cairns Primary and secondary schools and indigenous communities. Then it's GET READY TO ROLL when the blocks are printed all at once in a long line, with a unique printing device and a big team of printmakers, school students and volunteers. In 2014, The Wanderers Rugby Scrum Team printed with their Scrum Machine and in 2016 a road roller did the job. The BIG PRINTS then shows at Cell Art Space Gallery, 109 Lake St for three weeks and later travels to schools and communities. Visitors to the popular Tanks Market Day come to watch the fun.
InkFest 2016 comprised a total of 30 print events.
